Safety

All participants are required to wear a hard-shelled helmet.  The first rule of the road is to always expect the unexpected!  If you have any questions about  the condition of your bike or its capabilities, ask our staff at registration for assistance.   We don’t want a breakdown to spoil your day - an inspection of your bike beforehand can prevent breakdowns along the way.  We will have support vehicles on the road to assist with minor repairs.  However, since we cannot cover the entire route at one time, we recommend the following:

bullet

Carry basic tire repair materials with you.

bullet

Ride on the right with the traffic flow.

bullet

Lines are permitted along flat stretches.

bullet

Be careful going through St. Michaels as traffic will be congested and cars will stop and turn quickly.

bullet

While riding through the town of St. Michaels we suggest that you take the entire lane to avoid being hit by a vehicle.

bullet

Riding along the side of the street in downtown St. Michaels could be dangerous - there are small pockets of parking along the main street in St. Michaels which narrows the street considerably.

bullet

At all other times stay on the shoulder of the road.

bullet

Do not  weave out for dogs and other animals.

bullet

Be cautious of drivers who may be opening the doors of parked cars.

bullet

Remember to signal other roadway users with hand signals.
